Why You Need a Home Power Rack
Any fitness fanatic who has been working out for a significant amount of time is aware of one thing: compound lifts are the key to building muscle. A power rack is so essential because it allows you to perform so many compound lifts, including: squats, bench press (with a bench), standing shoulder press, and it even gives you a place to do deadlifts.
A high quality power rack will also give you places to store your weights to keep your home gym nice and organized.
Different Types of Power Racks
Power racks come for sale in a variety of different types:
- Full Rack: this involves a full cage that you can step inside of when performing your exercises. This will usually have catch arms at the bottom, so if you fail on a rep, the power rack will catch the bar for you.
Half Rack: half racks usually have a holder for the bar, but once you pick it up, you are no longer contained within the unit itself.
Power Rack: Required Additional Items
In order to get the most out of your power rack, you are going to need some additional items.
Barbell: in order to perform your lifts;
- Weight plates: to put on your barbell to perform the exercises.
Weight plates come in a few different types - iron, and bumper. If you are going to be performing olympic lifts such as snatches, cleans, and overhead catches - we would recommend bumper plates so you can drop the bar without any issue. However, if you are just going to be performing standard compound lifts such as squats and bench press, iron plates should suffice (and are cheaper).
