It is no secret that having a home sauna offers numerous health benefits. From cleansing to potential weight loss, barrel saunas can play an essential role in anyone's wellness routine; having a barrel sauna will provide many wellness-related benefits.
While this likely comes third to the first two benefits, is there any more aesthetically pleasing sauna than a beautiful barrel sauna? We sure don't think so. Having a beautiful barrel sauna is a lovely addition to any backyard.
One unique thing about barrel saunas compared to many of our other brands is that many of them actually come without a pre-installed heater. While on the face, a pre-installed heater may be nice, it can limit your options, especially if the type of heater that it comes with is not the type you envisioned using.
It is prevalent among our barrel sauna customers to install chimneys out the roof and use a wood-burning stove in their barrel sauna. This provides for a natural feel and the hottest type of sauna experience. While a pre-installed heater can be nice, a barrel sauna affords you the luxury of selecting your own sauna heater - whether that be an electric sauna heater or a wood-burning stove.
Finding the perfect barrel sauna to fit your needs is no easy endeavour, as there are a variety of essential considerations. Like most big purchases, with barrel saunas, you often do get what you pay for, so while it is still possible to get an affordable barrel sauna, it may be missing some features present in the more premium offerings. Below is a brief analysis of the top considerations to take into account when choosing a barrel sauna for your backyard.
The perfect size of your barrel sauna will depend upon how you plan to use it. If you plan to use it individually, then a one or two-person barrel sauna may be the perfect fit. However, if you plan to use your barrel sauna for socially related events or if you have a large family you envision using it with, you may want a 5 or 6-person barrel sauna. Both larger and smaller barrel saunas each have their benefits and drawbacks.
Below is a brief summary of some of the pros and cons of larger and smaller barrel saunas.
Four to six-person barrel saunas are perfect for social and family outings. Numerous people can stretch out, relax, and take full advantage of the barrel sauna with plenty of space. Even if you plan to use it by yourself, a larger barrel sauna can provide plenty of room to lie down and stretch out with plenty of space.
Large barrel saunas are just that, large. This means that they can take up a lot of space which may be an issue depending upon the size of your backyard. Further, if you use an electric heater in your barrel sauna, this can mean increased electrical requirements, which may not be pre-configured. Depending on your country and the laws, you may also require a building permit (though this is rare and usually only the case for the most extensive barrel saunas).
The benefit of a smaller barrel sauna is that it will fit in almost any backyard, and any electrical requirements will likely be minimal. It takes up less space, is less noticeable, and still allows for the exceptional benefits of owning a sauna. This is likely a better option for individual users or smaller families who reside in cities that may not have plenty of backyard space.
The disadvantage of smaller barrel saunas is that you are really limited in the number of people that can use them simultaneously. If you have a large family or a bunch of friends over, only a tiny portion of the group will be able to use the sauna simultaneously. If you live on your own or with 1 other person, this may be all that you need!
Below is a brief summary of the different sizes of our barrel saunas and the type of situation that they are ideal for:
While we briefly alluded to it earlier, the choice of a heater is an essential consideration in your barrel sauna. There are two main options: electric sauna heaters and wood-burning stoves. Below, find a brief summary of each type of barrel sauna heater:
This type of sauna has a wood heater and a chimney to release smoke. It provides a very classic experience, so this is why many customers' heater of choice! Wood-burning stoves will also get the hottest out of any type of sauna heater.
The downside is that you have very little control over the precise temperature, as the fire inside of the stove may take a while to cool down. This said, if you are after an authentic barrel sauna experience, there is no better choice than a wood-burning stove!
This type of heat is where you pour water over rocks to generate steam which heats the sauna. Barrel saunas of this type are heated electrically, which requires very little work other than having an electric circuit that meets the applicable requirements outside! They are effortless to use and often allow you to adjust the temperature on the heater itself or from a nearby control panel.
While lacking the authenticity of a wood-burning stove, these are the most convenient option. They also come in a range of different kW's, making it possible to get a hotter chance by just selecting the next kW up from what is "required" for a sauna of your size.
If it were me to decide, I would go with the Thermory 4 Person Barrel Sauna with a panoramic back window, and I would add on the 9 kW HUUM Drop Heater.
Here are a few reasons that I would make this selection:
